Smart Bra Unlocks for True Love

Meet True Love Tester, a high-tech piece of concept underwear that exclusively opens when the wearer is in love. The wearable detects ‘true love’ by receiving heart rate information to analyze via Bluetooth and sends this to a smartphone app. The app then calculates the “True Love Rate” based on changes in the heart rate over time.

The smart bra was developed by Japanese lingerie brand Ravijour as part of a campaign to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary. The designers point out that the type of excitement a woman feels when she’s in love is distinguishable from other types of excitement. “When we fall in love, we experience an instant boost in excitement,” says the company’s in-house Human Sexuality Specialist in the promotional video.

In 2013, Microsoft researchers developed a similar prototype with sensors that could monitor a woman’s emotional state to combat overeating. The sensors were able to signal the wearer’s smartphone, which then flash a warning message to help her step away from the fridge and make better diet decisions. However, the company said it had no plans to make the bra into a commercial product.

As tech companies creep deeper into our homes, their eyes ever more on our bedrooms, we can no doubt look forward to bed sheets that post our performance to Facebook and condoms that send a celebratory climactic tweet. Or maybe they’ll burst open too, when they can tell that you really want to have kids.

The Blowjob Library

The porn industry has always had an eye out for the future. Being an early adopter when it comes to implementing emerging technologies, the adult entertainment industry has pioneered everything – from e-commerce to (virtual reality) streaming video. So let us consider the latest trend in the industry: BlowCast, a marketplace for user-reviewed, teledildonic-assisted oral sex.

The company was founded by webcam platform CamSoda, and is striving to corner the market with their virtual on-demand oral simulations. BlowCast allows its users to enter their library, where they are introduced to a selection of both amateur and professional cam girls. The blowjob library currently consists of 16 different women, each with three different signature offerings available for $1 each. The oral simulations come with evocative names like “All In,” “Firm & Fair,” “Earthquake,” “Nooner,” and “Bring’em thunder,” and range from five to 31 minutes.

Here is how it works. The cam models offer simulated blowjobs by giving one to a Kiiroo Pearl; a hacked vibrator that collects sensory data while the model fellates the device. This data is collected in the library where the user is invited to select a blowjob based on the model. Users can rank the blowjobs with a “thumbs up” and “thumbs down,” and cautiously spend their dollars based on other users’ reviews. On the customer-side of things, the user implements a smart “sleeve” which translates the sensory data replicates it in the sleeve. When connected to a video stream, it simulates the experience of receiving a blowjob from that particular model.

The End of Romance: LoveBot

It is common knowledge that a relationship takes work. Much of this labor can be solved through sending thoughtful text messages, letting the person on the other line know that they are on your mind. So what if there is an app that does this for you? Introducing LoveBot, a chatbot with multiple message setting types, including love, casual and motivational, and it can even recite poetry.

Presented at the 2016 TechCrunch Disrupt SF Hackathon, Guru Ranganathan had a chatbot disrupting affection by automating it. “My wife says I’m not expressive enough, that I don’t say I love you enough,” he said. Problem. Therefore he build the little bot that can send contacts reminders of appreciation. “Once you set it up I guarantee it, you’re going to get a lot of brownie points,” he said. Solution.

Instead of making robot love, this chatbot speaks the love language in textual form. Love-mode for one sends Shakespeare quotes or messages that can bring that missing spark back into your relationship. Whereas ‘Casual’ is keeping up with old friends, ‘Motivational’ sends, what else, motivational quotes to your colleagues.

If LoveBot really is a solution to the problem, we don’t know. At least it is opening up a discussion to how technologies can be implemented in future forms of intimacy.

Safe Sex for Students

The Coventry University is currently auditioning for young couples that are willing to be filmed whilst having sex –as part of a safe sex campaign. The project seeks three amorous couples aged 18-25 and is paying them £400 to have sex in “natural settings” such as in a student room or car. Aim of the campaign would be to prove that using a condom doesn’t kill the mood, but increases pleasure.

The initiative is part of the university’s Chance 2 Change project, which aims to encourage the increased use of condoms between people aged 15 to 24. Alongside the videos, other clips will be available of people talking about how condoms factor into their sex lives. Project leader Dr. Katie Newby says, “The videos, which will be tastefully shot and feature genuine couples, are designed to be available to over-18s at the point at which they are requesting free STI self-testing kits from a website.”

The NHS currently spends £620 million a year treating STIs. According to experts, these numbers are due to the fact condoms are often regarded “unsexy”. That’s where the campaign comes in. Users can request a sample pack of 12 condoms to be sent to them discreetly, and start not-making babies.

The Open-Sourced Dildo

The importance of free software isn’t limited to technology; the open-source movement is currently evolving to include more intimate areas of our lives. Last year the Multivibrating Open-Source Dildo (MOD) was launched after a successful crowdfunding campaign. This hackable sex toy is programmed via a modified Arduino-based board and can react to any sensor you plug in to it. Next to that, it is USB rechargeable.

The MOD is the brainchild of tech company Comingle, and is indented to become fully customizable. By implementing a customized Arduino board, this sex toy is capable of interfacing with just about anything. From responding to literature to syncing it with your partner’s heartbeat to pulsating along the lines of your Twitter feed, the MOD can do that. It even works with a brain-sensing headband that gets you off with thought alone.

While The MOD comes with its very own vibration patterns, the user can design new ones on their website or code their own completely unique patterns, and share them online with friends. A stranger may soon build the best feature yet. Besides that, Comingle provides a so-called OSSex library, where the sex-hacking community can exchange and critique their sensor and hacking combos.

The MOD appears to succeed in bringing sex-positive hacking to the mainstream –and build a supportive community around it. So whether you feel you are doomed to a solitary life, or just want to make your sexual experiences better, note there are hackable technologies in the world to help a hand.

The Millennial Fantasy: Property Sex

According to Internet analytics company Alexa, PornHub is the 62nd most popular website in the world, outranking the New York Times, HBO and the Weather Channel. With nearly 100 categories available on the website, it seems there is something for everyone to get off. Last year a new fantasy was added to their list of content, and it puts ‘Open House’ in a brand new perspective.

Since the launch of the Property Sex channel in 2015, it’s currently ranked 10th most popular on Pornhub, with over 76.000 subscribers and 356 million views. According to PornHub, “Property Sex puts you behind the camera as you make dirty sex videos with the naughtiest of desperate tenants and with the most alluring real estate agents. Become a client and take a tour with some of the finest real estate agents who are willing to do just about anything for a sale. Or become the dirty landlord dealing with hot, young tenants who don’t want to face eviction.”

So basically the genre is the ultimate millennial dream: Being actually able to buy a house and do the real estate agent while you’re at it, but the real turn-on is the housing. The rise of Property Sex mirrors a dystopian landscape, in which a situation is presented that could potentially happen, but sadly never will.

Driven by Erotic E-Books

There is a new smart sex toy in town, or should we say intelligent? The Vibease is the self-proclaimed “first wearable smart vibrator” that syncs with steamy literature and can be operated via an app. Finally you can enjoy Fifty Shades of Grey the way it was truly intended.

The company currently offers over 500 erotic audiobooks that automatically sync with the teledildonic. Besides that, Vibease allows anyone to publish their erotic fiction to their internal marketplace. Some of the most popular titles include ‘Fifty Shades of Gael’, ‘The Lingerie Store’ and ‘Pounded’, with more then 10.000 downloads each.

Vibease describes the device as “an immersive pleasure experience” as it stimulates not only your body but also your mind. As you listen, the device is synced with the audio and pulses at the key moments in the story. “Imagine listening to Fifty Shades of Grey, when the voice says ‘I’m touching you softly,’ it vibrates softly and when the voice says ‘I’m touching you hard’, it vibrates hard. Like in the real intimacy, the user will experience surprises and anticipation.” It’s the complete non-boyfriend experience.

Since the device is remotely controlled, it also lets you record your partner’s voice and customize vibration levels accordingly. It even offers of the option of video calls within the app, so each partner can see the other’s face during playtime. Sexting just got a whole lot realer.

Speed Dating with Surgical Masks

In 1998, an Orthodox Rabbi and his wife invented a new form of dating technology for young Jewish singles to meet and find a partner. Dubbed speed dating, Rabbi Yaacov Deyo was well beyond his time, as this formalized matchmaking process is still in use today. A Japanese dating service has recently adopted the model with a tiny twist; the participants wear surgical masks during the three-minute dating sessions, focusing on one’s personality rather than looks.

The facemasks, more often worn to avoid catching disease, proved a big success among the participants, who found they were more ‘outgoing’ with them on. “Since I wasn’t judged by my appearance, I think I was able to be more outgoing with women,” said 28-year-old Yasumasu Kishi. Dating services are hot topic in Japan, as Japanese millennials raised in the digital society dread face-to-face encounters, while simultaneously long working hours have effect on the Japanese remaining unmarried. Therefore konkatsu, –active “marriage seeking activity”– is considered a virtuous option.

According to a national survey conducted by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2014, the marriage rate has plunged by 50 percent over the last 40 years, from 10,1 per thousand in 1975 to 5,1 per thousand in 2014. Since 2009, similar events take place for otako –which roughly translates to geeks. During the marriage hunt sessions, participants wear masks that depict popular characters from anime or manga, turning it to a kind of masked ball for geeks.

The Polyamorous Affair

According to the US Wedding Forecast, one-fourth of millennials are likely to never marry. The 2015 report demonstrates that marriage is no longer a sacred institution in America, as changes have occurred in values, economics and gender patterns – giving rise to a new form of romantic relationships; polyamory.

In January 2016 OKCupid introduced a new feature to satisfy what they had perceived as a growing trend: “Couples Linking.” This allows for people “off the market” to find new likeminded individuals with whom to have relationships. Reportedly this new feature is the result of 24% of OkCupid users being “seriously interested” in group sex and 42% being willing to date someone who is already in a relationship. Take the Polyamorous test!

Once you are living a Polyamorous life, there is an app that helps you maintain it. “The Poly Life is designed to help people manage all of their relationships with ease. Whether you have multiple relationships or simply a large family, this app is for you.”

It appears today we no longer feel the need to bond, as our more-modernity offers unlimited opportunities that put us in direct control of managing our relationships. Zygmunt Bauman extensively wrote about this phenomenon in his books Liquid Love and Liquid Life, in which he outlines the radical transformation of modern relationships into a fluid process.
